From Denmark to Greenland: One communication platform for the whole company

Ommen A/S is a Danish construction company specialising in large commercial and public-sector building projects. The company operates several specialist divisions, including concrete, formwork, surface treatment and coating, alongside a sister company focused on precast concrete elements. With 150 employees representing several nationalities and projects across Denmark as well as Greenland, communication plays an important role in keeping both employees and departments connected.

Before implementing Ziik in 2024, Ommen was looking for something quite simple. Important information was often distributed through emails or traditional channels, but that didn't always reach everyone in the same way. For a company where many employees spend their working day on construction sites rather than in the office, it was becoming increasingly important to have one place where news, practical information and company updates could be shared with everyone at once.

"We wanted a common meeting point," recalls Begitte Hansen.

The objective wasn't to replace every existing system, but to create a communication platform that could:

• reach employees wherever they were working
• bring together departments and construction sites
• make company news more visible
• strengthen the feeling of belonging across the organisation.

And perhaps even more importantly, it had to be easy to use.

One company, wherever people are working

The biggest change has been creating a shared overview across the business. Employees can follow new construction projects, major contract wins and everyday developments across departments that they might otherwise never hear about.

"We've got a red thread running through everything now," Begitte Hansen explains. "It gives us a much better feeling of what everyone else is doing."

Even Greenland feels close

Perhaps the best example comes from Ommen's projects in Greenland. Employees working there regularly share photos from the construction sites with colleagues back in Denmark. Despite the distance, colleagues remain part of the same conversation.

"Whenever someone goes over there, they post pictures from the projects," Begitte Hansen says. "It’s great for everyone back here to follow along."

Faster communication and quicker responses

Ziik has also made everyday communication much more efficient. Whether it's information about a newly awarded project, staffing plans or company announcements, updates reach employees quickly.

"We get responses much faster than before."

One particularly practical example is the weekly staffing board: Not everyone visits the office every morning, so the team simply photographs the staffing board and shares it in Ziik, ensuring everyone has the same information wherever they're working.

A stronger sense of community

For Begitte, one of the biggest benefits is how Ziik strengthens the company culture. Summer parties, apprentices completing their training, jubilees, birthdays and other milestones are all shared in Ziik. Even employees who couldn't attend still feel included by seeing photos and updates afterwards.

"We feel like we're all in the same house at once, even though we're actually far apart."
